Na ostatnim Essen wyszła gra która powinna się załapać u mnie na radar, ale jakoś zupełnie jej nie zauważyłem. Dopiero niedawno Rafał zapytał mnie czy słyszałem o grze o jakże intrygująco brzmiącej nazwie Days of Steam, a ja ze wstydem musiałem przyznać że nic nie wiem. Szybko posprawdzałem co to za gra śmie nawiązywać tytułem tak bezpośrednio do mojego ukochanego Age of Steam-a.

Gra została wydana w nakładzie 500 egzemplarzy przez wydawnictwo StrataMax, a większe wydanie przygotowuje wydawnictwo JKLM Games, które po dość długo trwającej przerwie w wydawaniu wydaje się że niedługo wreszcie zacznie wypuszczać zapowiadane od dawna gry. Na egzemplarz StataMaxowy już teraz nie miałem jak się załapać, a nie bardzo miałem ochotę czekać na wydanie JKLM, więc (biję się w piersi ze wstydem) wykonałem szybką samoróbkę.

Zasady

Tytuł gry (Dni Pary) w porównaniu z ‘Wiekiem Pary’ wydaje się obiecywać grę przypominającą Age of Steam, ale w wydaniu zauważalnie lżejszym i szybszym. I o dziwo – zupełnie inaczej niż to było w przypadku Roll Through The Ages – okazuje się że tytuł nie jest przyklejony tylko i wyłącznie z przyczyn marketingowych.

Days of Steam najkrócej można opisać jako połączenie Carcassonne i Age of Steam. Są pociągi, są miasta w różnych kolorach, z kostkami towarów, jest budowanie torów łączących miasta, jest mechanika ‘pick up and deliver’ (weź i dostarcz). A jednocześnie są kwadratowe kafelki które w ciemno bierzemy i układamy razem na stole.

W swoim ruchu gracz ma 2 możliwości – może dobudować nowy tor lub nowe miasto, za co dostaje w nagrodę punkty ‘pary’ (ruchu), albo może zgromadzone punkty pary wydać na ruch swoją lokomotywą po torach, zbieranie towarów z miast, i dostarczanie ich do celu.

Gracz trzyma zawsze na ręku 3 kafelki z torami. Decydując się na budowę torów może wybrać jeden z nich, albo zdecydować się budować miasto z wspólnej puli. Istnieją oczywiście pewne ograniczenia, ale najogólniej rzecz biorąc gracz wybiera między próbą budowania pętli za co dostaje punkty, budowaniu krótkich i prostych połączeń przy swojej lokomotywie, i wydłużaniu torów wszędzie tam gdzie któryś z przeciwników przygotował sobie idealne miejsce na jakieś miasto.

Sercem gry są te rundy kiedy możemy zgromadzone za budowanie torów punkty pary-ruchu wydać na wycieczkę naszą kolejką po właśnie stworzonym świecie. Punktów ruchu nigdy nie mamy więcej niż 6, więc ta wędrówka niestety nie jest przesadnie długa. Jeden kafelek kosztuje 1 lub 2 punkty ruchu, nie wolno nam nagle zmieniać kierunku ruchu, gdy mijamy jakieś miasto możemy załadować jeden z leżących tam towarów, gdy się uda go dostarczyć kładziemy go przed sobą na stole, a na koniec… sprawdzamy czy nasz pociąg nie wykoleił się gdzieś po drodze, i czy nie musimy wycofać całej rundy. O co chodzi? Otóż jeśli w czasie danej rundy pociąg pokonuje choć jeden zakręt, musi albo jechać bardzo powoli (tylko 2 punkty ruchu na cały ruch gracza), albo ryzykuje wypadnięcie z trasy. Im więcej przekroczymy limit 2 punktów ruchu tym większe ryzyko kłopotów – przy 3 punktach ratuje nas rzut kostką od 2 do 5, ale jeśli bardzo spieszyliśmy się gdzieś i pojechaliśmy z całe 6 punktów – uratuje nas już tylko 5 lub 6. Efekt wykolejenia jest bardzo nieprzyjemny – punkty ruchu przepadają, a pociąg wraca na miejsce skąd zaczął.

Gramy tak na zmianę budując tory i jeżdżąc szybciej lub wolniej naszym pociągiem aż ktoś uzyska 13 punktów. 2 punkty daje każdy dostarczony towar, 1 każda stworzona pętla, i kilka punktów bonusowych można dostać za dostarczanie towarów w wielu kolorach.

Wrażenia

Muszę przyznać że gra mnie bardzo pozytywnie zaskoczyła. Rozgrywka jest szybka, dociągane tory losowe, ale mimo wszystko jest sporo okazji do ciekawych zagrań taktycznych. Mechanizm z wykolejaniem, choć może kogoś wykluczyć z gry (Przemek 2 razy musiał wyrzucić cokolwiek innego niż 1. Ani razu się nie udało, a stracone 2 tury były raczej nie do odrobienia), nadaje duże bardzo znaczenie temu jaki układ połączeń powstaje. Każdy z graczy marzy o tym żeby połączyć 2 miasta bliskie jego lokomotywie prostym odcinkiem torów, więc inni starają się w takich miejscach koniecznie dorzucić jakieś zakręty. Z drugiej strony wymuszając na innych budowanie torów w mojej okolicy często jestem w stanie wymusić na nich żeby zbudowali za mnie połączenie do jakiegoś ważnego dla mnie miasta, czy też choćby do wystawienia mi miejsca na dokończenie cyklu i zgarnięcie bonusowego punkcika.

Jak zbudować żeby nie musieć jeździć za wolno, żeby mieć gdzie wyłożyć nowe miasto, żeby do nowo powstałego miasta nikt inny nie zdążył dojechać i zabrać mi z niego towary – wszystko to są pytania które sprawiają że budowa torów nie jest ani trochę bezmyślnym dokładaniem kafelków gdzie popadnie, to tu decyduję się wynik gry. Samo jechanie jest często dość proste – jeśli mam jakiś towar i miasto przed sobą to jadę. Tu decyzje to głównie zarządzanie ryzykiem – czy gdzieś muszę pojechać po zakręcie ponad limit, czy chcę zabrać jakiś towar przed innymi choć jeszcze nie widzę czy uda się w pobliżu zbudować miasto które ten towar przyjmie.

Tak więc choć gra jest względnie szybka (45 minut) i prosta, choć nie powinna odstraszyć fanów Carcassonne-a, to daje też całkiem sporo miejsca na lekkie ale jednak pogłówkowanie. Jako gra na rozruszanie się na początek dnia, czy do wyciszenia się po krwiożerczej rozgrywce w Age of Steam czy Steam, Days of Steam nadaje się doskonale. A że z dobrze poinformowanych źródeł wiem że gra będzie już niedługo wydana po polsku, polecam już zacząć odkładać na nią w portfelu.

    Straszna wpadka z pudełkiem… ale jeśli gra ukaże się po polsku, bardzo poważnie zastanowię się nad zakupem :)

    gry wróciłem do domu po rozgrywce stwierdziłem, że w jej trakcie nie podjąłem chyba jednej dobrej decyzji :) do tego doszły złe rzuty przy podejmowaniu ryzyka na zakrętach (dwa razy wyrzuciłem 1 gdy musiało być >1).. i nie spodobało mi się specjalnie. Ale gdy sobie to przemyślałem po jednym dniu, to już z sympatią myślę o grze

    Bazik, aby wiedzieć jakie gry wychodzą na Essen wystarczy obserwować na bgg wątek Essen Canonical List. W tym roku robi go surya z Belgii. O Days of steam wiedziałem już we wrześniu 2008 i nawet jestem autorem microbadge’a. :) Cieszę się, że gra będzie po polsku i podoba się graczom. Kto wyda po polsku?
