Terrors of London – wrażenia z rozgrywki [Współpraca reklamowa z Portal] Wydawca nie ma wpływu na treść recenzji

Terrors of London to deck building w klimacie wampirów i Londynu od Portal Games. Szybkie pojedynki, emocjonujące starcia, to i moje wrażenia muszą być na gorąco. Jednakże na początku pojawiły się pewne problemy…

Powiedzmy sobie jedno. Jeżeli w 2020 mogło nas spotkać jeszcze coś złego, to jest to instrukcja do Terrors of London. Już od dłuższego czasu nie miałam okazji mierzyć się z takim, nie owijając w bawełnę, syfem. A czytałam naprawdę mnóstwo instrukcji. Lepszych, gorszych, chaotycznych, uporządkowanych itd. Myślę, że przebrnęłam przez około 1000 – jak nie więcej. Niemniej Terrors of London przeniósł mnie na zupełnie nieznane wyżyny irytacji.

Nie chodzi oto, że instrukcja jest niejasna, nieścisła bądź trudna w odbiorze. Z tym można sobie jeszcze poradzić. Ta instrukcja po prostu nie mówi nam NICZEGO. A uchowaj wszyscy bogowie by ktoś nigdy nie grał w deck building, to  znajdzie się w bezkresnej otchłani. Reguły nie tłumaczą podstawowych mechanik. Np. zdolność Zwołaj jest wyjaśniona gdzieś tam na końcu w jakimś dodatkowym spisie pojęć. Do tego jest tak wytłumaczona, że i tak nie wiadomo o co chodzi. Czym różnią się zdolności unikatowe od zdolności słów-kluczy trzeba sobie jakoś wykoncypować. Albo wymyślić, jak nie chce nam się kluczyć w tych meandrach niedopowiedzeń.

W związku z tym w Terrors of London gramy mniej więcej. Coś tam wiadomo, ale żadnej pewności nie ma. Ponadto rozwiązania graficzne wcale nie pomagają w płynnym rozgrywaniu partii. Nie ma żadnych estetycznych różnic między efektami trwałymi a natychmiastowymi. Różnice graficzne między reliktami a resztą? A weź to sobie sam zobacz i dopasuj. Co ciekawe nie jest to wina ani wydawnictwa, ani tłumaczenia. Po prostu autorzy gry chyba sami nie wiedzą co chcą przekazać. Jak napisali FAQ, to wprowadzili jeszcze więcej wątpliwości. Jak do tego doszło – nie wiem.

Dość już tego stękania. O ile nie odstraszają was takie ohydne funkcjonalne niedoróbki i ciekawi was jeszcze, jak sprawuje się sama gra, to zapraszam do dalszej lektury. Terrors of London to dość klasycznych deck building (w podstawce – tylko na dwie osoby) z małym twistami. Nie wprowadza rewolucji do gatunku, nie powala nowatorskimi rozwiązaniami. Jednakże rozgrywka jest na tyle przyjemna, że z chęcią będę dalej nawalać te zmory nocy.

Powiem wprost – porównując Star Realms oraz Terrors of London (podkreślę raz jeszcze – same podstawki!), to w przypadku tego drugiego tytułu bawiłam się lepiej. Wpływ na to miała przede wszystkim mechanika Hordy. Ot potwory mają swoje kolorki i kombują się między sobą, odpalając fajne umiejętności. Jednakże dzięki temu nie musimy aż tak bardzo narzekać na słabe karty do kupienia (a jak wiadomo mechanika losowego rynku nie rzuca na kolana), ponieważ i tak czy siak każda karta może nam bardzo ładnie przypasować do Hordy. Nie ma już tego problemu co w Star Realms, że nasz przeciwnik zgarnia super karty, budując swój silniczek, a my musimy zadowolić się jakimś badziewiem.

Fajnie działa również Nawiedzenie (jak już ogarnięcie jak działa – my chyba w końcu doszliśmy do celu, łącząc kilka głów w wysiłku zrozumienia), umożliwiające zostawienie zagranych kart na następną rundę. Nie tylko więcej zaplanujemy, lecz także zapewnia to jeszcze więcej kombinowania. Ponadto, jeśli dobrze przypasujemy zdolności naszych, wybranych na początku, władców do zdobywanych kart, to już nawet w jakąś strategię można iść.

Chodzą słuchy, że relikty bywają za mocne. Zwłaszcza, że wchodzą do gry od razu po zakupie i nie trzeba czekać aż wyjdą z talii. Dodatkowo można je usunąć wyłącznie za pomocą umiejętności Zniszcz, toteż wcale nie tak łatwo się ich pozbyć. Grałam jak na razie kilkanaście partii, więc nie mogę wygłosić żadnych rozstrzygających sądów, ale problem ten nie pojawiał się za często. Owszem, gdy komuś podejdzie mocny relikt już na samym początku rozgrywki, to przeciwnik ma dużo ciężej. Aczkolwiek nie jest to sytuacja beznadziejna. Damy rady się z tego pozbierać. Niemniej jestem w stanie wyobrazić sobie sytuacje, że ktoś naciął się na relikt przeciwnika, szczególnie gdy akurat nie pojawiły się karty (a sam nie ma ich w talii początkowej) ze zdolnością zniszczenia. Nie wiem jednak, czy odbiera to całkowicie szanse na zwycięstwo.

Co do zdolności władców, w których możemy się wcielić, to statycznie najczęściej w moich partiach wygrywał Fenris. Jego akcja jest naprawdę mocna, a jak jeszcze dołoży do tego regeneracje, to staje się naprawdę twardym zawodnikiem. Lepsi ode mnie gracze prawdopodobnie szybciej znaleźliby na niego sposób, ale ja miałam sporą zagwozdkę. Dobrze, że władcy dają jedynie sugestie, co do stylu gry, ale nie determinują naszych decyzji. Możemy olać ich karty wpływu i grać wyłącznie pod skonstruowaną hordę.

Podczas gry w Terrors of London pojawiły się u nas zarówno emocje, jak i wyklinanie na wyjątkowo dobry ruch przeciwnika. Jak się przebrnie przez zasady i zapamięta najważniejsze wątki, to powoli wszystko zaczyna śmigać. Partie trwają krótko, a człowiek ma od razu ochotę odegrać się na rywalu. W końcu jest to gra o masakrowaniu przeciwnika, czyli o stworzeniu takiej talii, która za pomocą kilku kart zada jak najwięcej obrażeń. I zmiecie z powierzchni ziemi punkty życia drugiego władcy.

Ponadto trzeba zaznaczyć, że jest to deck building, a nie śmiecio building, gdzie na koniec macie mega grubą talię i de facto niczego już nie jesteście w stanie zaplanować, bo karty będą pojawiać się na waszych rękach całkowicie losowo. Tutaj mamy naprawdę sporo możliwości pozbycia się niepotrzebnych kart, więc jak wasza talia przesadnie się rozrosła, to już wiecie, że coś poszło nie tak. ;)

Terrors of London bardzo dobrze wpisuj się w swój gatunek. Jest szybkim oraz emocjonującym deck builderem, w którym i trochę pokombinujemy, i trochę pomyślimy nad najlepszymi opcjami. Po pokonaniu absolutnie koszmarnej instrukcji zapewni nam sporo frajdy. Stanowi naprawdę godną polecenia alternatywę dla Star Realms. Warto spróbować, warto kupić. Ot, bardzo dobry przedstawiciel swojej „kasty”. Gdyby nie ta instrukcja…
